Dr. Sherrie Poitier-Liscombe is a 28-year veteran of Broward County Public Schools, having worked with students at every level, from Elementary to Community School, and possesses extensive knowledge in inspiring at-risk youth to reach their full potential. She is credited with leading the first set of Hospital Homebound Graduates and graduating the first set of seniors with over 50% in Dillard 6-12’s almost 100-year history at the time (54% in 2006). Dr. Poitier’s last year at Dillard, prior to being promoted to School Counseling Director at Whiddon Rogers Education Center, her final senior class graduated 342 out of 347 students assigned to her from the 2009-2012 school years.
Dr. Poitier-Liscombe was not only High School Counselor of the Year but also Teacher of the Year for DJJ 2016-17 and 2017-18. To repair communities, she founded The Deliverance Center, Inc., an all-purpose center that empowers people to restore their communities from within. It is her vision to leave a legacy behind that changes the trajectory of youth after she has left this dimension.
In 2017, Dr. Poitier published a children’s series to inspire children to build good character and to make reading fun again. She is the originator and co-coordinator of The BCPS College & Career Summit and has also dedicated her time and fundraising efforts to encouraging women through W.O.M.E.N., Women Organizing. Monumentally. Encouraging Nations and SpiritLed Ministries.
As an author, Dr. Sherrie has two unique series.’ The Adventures of Sherrie and Chubbie, a children’s series aiding children to develop good character (as mentioned), has won two NYC Big Book Awards 2024 and one Distinguished Favorites Independent Press Award 2024. Book one in this series has won Best African American Children’s Book from the NYC Big Book Awards in addition to a Distinguished Favorite in Children’s Religion from the Independent Press Awards. Dr. Poitier-Liscombe’s second series is a Teen Life Series established to address the total wellness of teens as they face today’s challenges. All The Adventures of Sherrie and Chubbie Teen Life Series have won NYC Big Book Awards (3) and/or Distinguished Favorites (3), with the Teen Life Book on Bullying being a dual awardee. For the 2025’ Independent Press Awards, I have been awarded an additional winner and two Distinguished Favorites, bringing the award total to 16.
